agreed. these days I think of "dogmatism" less as a general trait of an individual and more as a stance you take in specific situations. what positions are you unwilling to let go of at this moment? those are the ones which you're "dogmatic" about, in this particular discussion. I think it's healthy actually to be able to modulate what positions you do and don't hold fast to depending on the context. where people seem to run into problems is when they're completely incapable/unwilling (largely for emotional reasons) to question specific positions, no matter what context
